2018-2019 Daniel P. Sullivan Council 10208 of Hot Springs Village Knight of the Year – Colonel Thomas (Tom) Donnelly, USMC (retired) Ed.D. |
He has held the positions of Council Community Director, Deputy Grand Knight, Grand Knight twice, Membership Committee, Retention Committee, Recruiting Committee, State Council CPID Director, Warden for the District 10 Formation Degree Exemplification Team, 1st Trustee and is currently the Faithful Captain of Assembly 2316, Honor Guard member, and 2nd Trustee for Council 10208.
Not only has he done so much for the Knights, he takes a tremendous amount of time for the Church.
Perpetual Adoration, serves as an Usher, participates in Parish and Knights of Columbus Retreats annually, attends daily mass most days, attends the Catholics Men’s Conference annually, and either organizes or helps in most Parish and Knights of Columbus Activities.
I could go on and on about how much Sir Knight Tom does in the community and continues to help wherever there is a need. His philosophy is to lead by example with the strongest emphasis on servant leadership; Leaders serve and lead from the Front!! He lives the four tenets of our fraternal order: Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism. In every and all endeavors he pragmatically encourages all of us to “be the best we can” with what God provides us. He sets the achievement bar high, never asking anyone to do what he is not willing to do himself. He demonstrates daily a sense of duty to his Church, his community his brothers.
An award well deserved!! Congratulations Sir Knight Tom on being selected as the Knight of the Year.

The Hot Springs Village and Hot Springs Knights of Columbus councils Charity Golf Tournament this year at the Magellan Golf Course in Hot Springs Village was a huge success. Checks from both the Hot Springs Village and the Hot Springs Councils presented checks to ST. John’s School on June 18 in front of the School’s new Courtyard.
This would not have been possible without the generosity of all the sponsors. We would like to thank them for helping us with this very worthy cause for St. John’s Catholic School in Hot Springs, AR.

The Knights of Columbus of Hot Springs Village hosted the Taste of Faith Dinner.
After the Opening Prayer by Fr. Bill and the Pledge of Allegiance, our Grand Knight, Ed Doyle, gave a summary of the exciting night ahead.
The great Larry Womack then entertained everyone during the reception with just the right style of music.
A wonderful meal was served provided by Jim Sparks and his Home Plate crew. Jim is a member of both our council and our assembly. The meal was followed up with Fr. Bill’s World Famous Home-Made Ice Cream which is always a hit!!
Monsignor Scott Friend, the Vocations Director for the Diocese of Little Rock gave a very educational speech on the House of Formation and how much the Council’s Financial help enables the them to continue to educate new Priests. A Short film was shown that described the seminarian vocations program in the state of Arkansas. Monsignor Friend introduced the 11 guest seminarians that were present. The Council treated them with a leather bookmark with Philippians 4:13 inscribed on it as a small gift.
Additional Speakers were Deacon Joseph Friend who told of a very inspirational time of his experiences as a seminarian. Following him were a few words from Deacon Chuck Ashburn, the Assistant Vocational Director of the Diocese.
Other Guests of the evening were the 4th Degree Faithful Navigator, Sir Knight Gary Wolfer and his wife Ruth.
Murray and Kim Claassen did a great job in organizing and stewarding this Seminarian Endowment Dinner.
Brother Knight Walter Free took care of the tedious task of ticket sales, volunteers, seating arrangements, and as always, has done a yeoman-like job. Brothers Tom Conrad and Ted Otero had well-organized and extremely efficient refreshment center
There were many gracious ladies of our parish who helped with so many facets of this dinner.
Grand Knight Ed Doyle presented a check to the House of Formation of $31,000.00 that was raised at the dinner and Fr. Bill Elser also presented them a check of a similar amount that was donated from the regular stewardship of Sacred Heart parishioners.
On Memorial Day weekend, there were 25 Brother Knights, their wives and friends took their time to volunteer for the Special State Olympics of Arkansas. The event was hosted by Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas.
The Knight’s Honor Guard took the lead for the Parade of Athletes kicking off the 2019 Special Olympic Games that was held from May 23rd to May 25th.
The Volunteers provided Carnival Games, Arts and Crafts for over 2000 attendees consisting of the Olympic Athletes and their family members.
Many thanks to Fred Jungers of the Knights of Columbus Council 10208 Jesus Catholic Church of Hot Springs Village for spearheading this event for so many years.
