Dick is being honored as the 2009-2010 Knight of the Year for his dedicated service as Program Director, during which time he worked diligently with the directors and helped coordinate all of the council’s many activities and programs.  He has also monitored the documentation of many of these activities to facilitate the processes for future coordinators.

Dick joined Council 10208 in February 2009, attained the 2nd and 3rd degrees in April, and became a 4th Degree Assembly member in December.  He quickly earned the Shining Armor award during his first year as a knight.

Born in Oakland CA, he grew up in Santa Cruz on Monterey Bay.  Dick and Judy, his wife and best friend of 51 years, have six children, thirteen grandchildren, and one great grandchild.  Judy died of lung cancer in 2008 after being an esophageal cancer survivor for twenty years.  She was a wonderful wife and mother, and a fighter.

Dick earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and was commissioned an ensign in the U. S. Navy in January 1957.  Dick received a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School in 1972.  After spending thirty years as an aviator, he retired with the rank of captain.

Dick and Judy moved to Little Rock in 1986 where he was Vice President of Engineering for the Dassault Falcon Jet Corporation.  He was a member of the UALR Engineering Advisory Committee and was involved in obtaining certification of the school for graduate technical degrees over the strong objections of the parent campus at Fayetteville.

During his Navy career and at Little Rock, Dick was a lector and Eucharistic minister for over thirty years.

Since coming to the Village with Judy in 1997, Dick has been very active in the community.  He was President of the HSV Tennis Association, Chairman of the POA Recreation Committee, a six-year member of the POA Board and its president for three years.  He was on the last two POA Assessment Increase Committees and last winter chaired the Village Promotion Committee.  He is presently on the POA Governmental Affairs Committee, serves on the boards of the HSV Community Foundation, the Friends of the Village and the HSV Rotary Club, and is a senior advisor to the POA's Strategic Plan Committee.

Dick, congratulations on winning this award, and thanks for your leadership and many contributions to this council during the past year.
